Archaeological Museum of Ancient Olympia
One of the most important museums in Greece and the second largest in the country, the Archaeological Museum of Olympia presents the long history of the most celebrated sanctuary of antiquity, that of Zeus—the sacred place where the Olympic games were born. With an abundance of exhibits on display, the museum hosts findings that the excavations brought to light at the ancient site of Olympia, dating from prehistoric times to the early Christian period.
You will have the chance to admire the most extensive collection of copper artifacts in the world, as well as various collections of sculptures, ceramics, and elaborate objects from the Olympic Games. Among the most significant showpieces are the famous Hermes of Praxiteles, Nike of Paeonius, the helmet of Miltiades, and the multi-figure statue group of Zeus and Ganymede.
